If it can be say so, my favorite movie!
Yesterday I watched it probably the tenth time, I do not even count anymore. Except the great story and convincing acting, this movie is very important to me because of time of its creation. It was the period of completion of my high school, a time of great decisions, fears, hopes. The first time I saw him at school, in class with a favorite professor of literature. I can't say that I enrolled the study of literature because of this film, but it was a spice that consolidated a decision.
I liked the potentiation of the landscape and changing seasons as the film grows to a tragic end.
My experience of professor Keating has changed over the years, from the pure rapture of this type of teacher to critical thinking to the effects of his teaching methods. There is no doubt in his noble intentions, but it is very sensitive to teach young, immature people. It's clearly that we all need some dose of rules and structure combined with the enthusiasm and stimulating environment. Keating was wrong, of course, unintentionally, because he overdosed the idea of freedom in the wrong environment. "There's a time for daring and there's a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for." (Why this is not repeated several times?) We aren't all the same and different effects can degenerate into a negative, tragic situations. Unfortunately, the extreme effects were demonstrated in the case of Neil Perry. Reversing Whitman, Oh, Captain, my Captain, give the good wind to my ship if you are sure it is sturdy enough.
In the end, I'll agree with Professor Keating: "No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world."
Those who didn't break down and withdraw from life, got a lot from professor Keating , which shows the last 5 minutes of the movie...
