Taxi Driver/ Taksist (1976.)

 Director: Martin Scorsese

Brilliantly directed and narrated movie with excellent Robert De Niro in the role of Travis Bickle. Travis is a Vietnam's veteran who suffers from insomnia and earns for living by driving the night shift as a taxi driver. He is a lonely guy, too honest for the world that surrounds him, aimless and obsessive. He's trying to make sense of his life by falling in love with the "wrong girl" (Cybill Shepard), who is superficial and unemotional, enthralled with the politician on the rise. Travis focuses on attempts to rescue underage prostitute (Jodie Foster, her first role!) while planning his final showdown with the wicked world.

Brilliant movie with slowed action, dark atmosphere and great portrayal of the main character. Combination of artfully directed aesthetic of ugliness and poetic parts. Modern savior and a missionary, unhappy and disappointed man who is fighting for good to the end, De Niro has made one of his memorable roles.
Of course, I'm the fun of "You talking to me?" scene in front of the mirror. Great scene, just great!
